What is ZIP file?

A zip file refers to a file that contains one or more compressed files. Winzip is used in zipping and unzipping of compressed files. Zip is commonly used in sharing files over the internet. After receiving a zip file, you are required to unzip/unpack the file for you to access the zipped files. There are many software that can be used to open these files, but WinZip is the best software for compressed files. Zipping your files can also help you save your disk space as zipped files take less space as compared to unzipped files. Zipping encrypted files may result in unplanned decryption on unzipping the files thus disclosure of sensitive information. To zip your files, you only need to locate the folder to be zipped, Right click on the folder and then select ‘Send to’ and then select the zipped folder. After this, you can rename the newly created folder.
